Advantages
May be more likely to incorporate cultural perspectives than standardised tests.
Can give more opportunities for higher-level reasoning than some standardised tests.
Objective measure of achievement.
Disadvantages
Does not measure potential.
May have a low ceiling i.e. too many students achieving highly to distinguish between them.
